Last year Boston sports radio station WEEI fired legendary afternoon host Glenn Ordway. The show hasn’t been the same since. It’s time to bring back the Big Show with the Big O. And it may just happen. The Boston Herald reports:
WEEI, in a battle for survival with rival 98.5 The Sports Hub, may be headed for a Back-to-the-Future shake-up that would bring longtime station jock yakker Glenn Ordway back into the fold a year after he was summarily canned.
Entercom Boston boss Phil Zachary and his crew are taking a hard look at the midday and afternoon-drive shows — currently featuring Lou Merloni and Mike Mutnansky and Michael Holley and Mike Salk — and have reached out to Ordway, who was axed last February by former Entercom boss Jeff Brown.
“I like Glenn and I’d like to find a way to bring him back,” Zachary told theTrack. “There’s no concrete offer on the table now, we’re still in the discussion phase, but it’s a possibility.”
A possible hang-up: Ordway has been working on his own venture, a multimedia project involving Internet and satellite radio, that he is close to launching and he may not be willing to give it up. Zachary noted that ’EEI “has to get better between 10 (a.m.) and 6 (p.m.).”
