One either loves or hates CHEZ L’AMI LOUIS
Many visitors find the prices high and the staff a little off-putting. Debbie and I continue, after numerous visits through numerous years, to be enthusiastic supporters. The best roast chicken, green salad, escargot, and foie gras merit the price received. And the wine carte, a little cumbersome and perhaps high priced, offers excellent choices.
As for the long-time staff, we continue as enthusiastic supporters. These guys are hard ball. If you are loud and pushy and totally unfamiliar with the menu and wine list, you are in the wrong place and might feel a little awkward. When Louie hits your table with a brusque “’I’m here,” that’s your signal to be ready with your whole table’s complete order. No joke here. Louie takes no prisoners.
The bistro setting harkens back to the mid 1920s. We also love the food and the staff and feel much about Chez L’Ami Louis as we do about an old, comforting friend. No way we would miss out at this controversial bistro.
