Rumors: Undermining Democracy
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., running as an independent, is floating the idea of a presidential debate between himself and the presumptive nominees – Trump (R) and Biden(D)). It would be hosted on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, reports the staff at American Greatness.
Apparently, Elon Musk is on board, continues American Greatness:
As an independent, RFK Jr. has been left out of the two scheduled debates because he has failed so far to reach the 15% threshold in four national polls and to have ballot access in enough states to theoretically win 270 electoral votes. But that could change as Kennedy continues to be added to state ballots.
The Hill reports that Donald Trump has indicated he has “no problem” including Kennedy in the debate“ if he can reach whatever the required threshold is” (garnering enough signatures to qualify in 14 states).
Still unclear is whether President Joe Biden would agree to participate in a debate that includes RFK, Jr.
The incumbent president insisted on certain conditions for debating Trump, including not having a live audience in attendance.
Kennedy, Jr. objects to any decision to keep him out of the debates:
Presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden are “colluding to lock America into a head-to-head match-up that 70% say they do not want.”
Kennedy, Jr. argues that keeping viable candidates off the debate stage undermines democracy.
