President Donald Trump roared his displeasure at Congress’s pork-stuffed “relief” bill. What‘s not to like?
- Giveaways to special interests and foreign countries.
- Low direct payments to Americans.
- Bailouts to teachers’ unions
- Aid to gender studies in Pakistan
Teachers’ unions have been instrumental in keeping many public school districts shut this fall and winter, BRIGHT editor Inez Stepman writes:
In addition to an almost-insulting level of aid for Americans unable to make a living because of the coronavirus pandemic and attendant shutdown restrictions, the bipartisan “relief” bill announced by Congress on Tuesday contains a provision disallowing governors from using emergency funds to provide desperately-needed school choice.
Despite the $54 billion bailout the bill offers public schools, many of which remain closed and unable to serve the needs of students, the language in it specifically restricts any help for families desperate to provide an education for their children during these difficult times.”
