At EmTech MIT 2022, Frank McCourt explained his vision of a better Internet. Now, MIT Technology Review has made the entire presentation public as McCourt seeks to buy TikTok. EmTech explains in an email:
Billionaire investor and entrepreneur, Frank McCourt Jr., is organizing a bid to buy TikTok through Project Liberty, a project he founded to fight for a safer, healthier internet, where user data is owned by users rather than tech giants.
At EmTech MIT 2022, Frank outlined this vision to stitch together an ecosystem of technologists, academics, policymakers, and citizens committed to building a better internet—where people’s data is theirs to manage, the platforms are theirs to govern, and the power is theirs to reclaim.
“We have to break the model or evolve the model into one where it returns the control, the agency, the choice, the ownership, and the rights to individuals.”
For the first time, we’re sharing with you the entire, full length, prescient session.
